Infographic: How Many Calories Do You Drink Every Day?

To maintain a healthy weight, it is important not to go over or below the recommended daily calorie intake. However, it is not only calorie intake from food that counts. If you take a look at the caloric value of some of the most popular alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, you may be surprised to learn the amount of calories you actually intake with your daily drinks.

When it comes to alcoholic beverages, it’s important to know their usual serving size. That is something you won’t necessarily find on beverage labels. Moreover, you can hardly expect the barman fixing your favorite cocktail to inform you about the number of calories in it! Different drinks have different customary serving sizes, depending on the amount of alcohol they contain. For example, when we talk about beer, we usually refer to a serving size of 12 oz. For hard liquors that contain much more alcohol than beer (such as tequila, whiskey, vodka, rum, gin, etc.) the customary serving size is 1 or 1.5, and it is 5 oz for wine.

You’ll never see hard liquor served in a 12 oz glass, because it would be very difficult and dangerous to drink that amount of alcohol at once (especially if it’s an extremely potent drink with a very high alcohol degree). But for the purposes of fully understanding and visualizing the amount of calories in some of the most frequently consumed beverages, both alcohol and non-alcohol, the following infographic presents the calorie count for different types of beverages in equal serving sizes of 12 oz (354 ml).

The graphic will make it easier for you to keep track of the amount of calories you intake with your preferred beverages. For example, you can compare Jägermeister to Beefeater gin, or ubiquitous Cosmopolitan to Margarita or Mojito, and so on. On the non-alcoholic side of the scale, quite a few surprises await you. Could you guess that strawberry banana smoothie has less calories than 100% apple juice? Or that cappuccino can prove more waist-friendly than an espresso with whole milk?
